This year the A.C.E. goes to a citizen who has shown their commitment to our City’s environment through leading in environmental advocacy, education and who, by putting her feet in the street and hands in the ground, has also helped our City further its reputation as “Someplace Special.” Ms. Mary Miller is receiving the 2017 ACE.Mary, who was born in Washington DC, moved to Miami, FL where she raised her 3 children in the 60’s. After Hurricane Andrew destroyed her large 5-acre nursery of bonsai trees, she determined that she would be moving.Within a few years, she relocated to Mount Dora in 2010, following a 1-day visit and tour of our City – moving here due to our lovely and unique community. She has been selected for the ACE as a result of her work in helping to plan, develop, fund and volunteer “Serenity Park,” now completed and located at the NW corner of Tremain Street and 9th Ave. A Live Oak tree will be donated to Serenity Park in honor of Mary’s hard work to bring this park from an idea to reality, and transforming the former site of a City water tower to a lovely park for residents and others to enjoy our Tremain Street trail and surrounding neighborhood. THANK YOU, Mary, for your creative and energetic commitment to our environment through all of the hard work you have accomplished in just the last 1 ½ years! You’ve worked a miracle in such a short time, and now Serenity Park, which is a sub-trust of, and received funding from, the Mount Dora Community Trust is becoming a reality! Soon the park will be finished and dedicated!
